Many cities are beginning to require contractors to landscape at least the front of a property, but many older neighborhoods still suffer with that one neighbor who never seems to notice his overgrown, weed-infested yard. It is amazing the difference a yard transformation can make not only for the homeowner, but the neighborhood as well

One such yard comes to mind, it was even complete with those figurines of the jolly couple bent over working in the planter beds. The weeds were almost level with the front porch, creating a habitat for snakes and who knows what else. The trees were in desperate need of pruning, and the fence was falling down. After numerous complaints from neighbors, the complacent homeowner finally took the initiative to clean up his yard. To the elation of the neighbors, he actually began to enjoy himself. He threw himself enthusiastically into his makeover. 

He began by removing all of the weeds and pruning the trees. He then installed raised planter beds out of rough-faced concrete blocks. He installed a full irrigation system complete with timers. Within the planters, he planted perennial flowers and spread a layer of shredded bark. Below each of the planters, he laid sod.
